It is with great pride and respect that I share our own Charles Bennett has been honored with the naming of Honorary W. Charles Bennett Drive in East Chicago, Indiana.  This is a wonderful tribute to Charles and his contributions to the community.  Congratulations Charles.

Congratulations on this honor! You're another example of a great role model for us all to emulate and I might add, you are a distinguished grad of the great class of 1974 (and there aren't many of us)!

I just wanted to say how much we enjoyed being a part of your celebration and the wonderful family reception. Thanks so much for the gifts and all your support over the years.

-----

From Abbisola Oxley:

After hearing about your Street Naming Ceremony I wanted to congratulate you for receiving this honor. I know it must have been such a great feeling to go back to your home community to be acknowledged at such magnitude.

-----

From Karen DeGazon:

CONGRATULATIONS!!.....What an HONOR, needless to say a surprise!!!
You should hold your head high and wear your achievement with pride.  This is not something that comes daily to every and any one individual.  The city of East Chicago hold their "homeboy" in high esteem, and, I assume, deeply appreciates all that you have given back to the community where you grew up and received the strong moral foundation that you have.

You and your family have a lot to be grateful for.  Not only for your success in life, but also for the spiritual growth, mentorship and knowlege that you have given to others and mostly because you never forgot where you came from.

I must say that I am very proud of you and your achievements and am happy to see that you are able to know of these accolations and how much you are appreciated and thought of in this life.  It's a wonderful feeling!!!

-----

From Pat Harvey:

I am STILL ALL UP IN THE AIR...will ALWAYS consider THIS as THE BEST....for ONCE our little "hood" could give HIM SOMETHING BACK!!!  AND those little "gifts" for us SENIORS....THE TALK OF THE CITY!!!! LOL  No one ELSE has topped THAT...ANYWHERE IN THE CITY!!!!!  Again thanks to your whole FAMILY...Charles was grinning ALL DAY...AND ME TOO!!!

From Madalyn Hunt (Director of East Chicago Boys & Girls Club):

I just want to take the time to personally thank you.  When I first came back to work in East Chicago last year April I was faced with so many challenges.  I have to say you have helped out beyond words can actually explain.  I thank you for believing in me and trusting me with your funding for the members.  Your unexpected gift will make it a lot easier for families of East Chicago that depend on our transportation.  So again thank you and look forward to seeing you the next time you come home.
